In the last few months it has become clear that a company, Shoal Point Energy, wishes to commence Hydraulic Fracturing or “Fracking” at a site near the coast of Western NL. Fracking is currently banned in several countries, and has been found to have significant negative health and environmental effects (Ohio has suffered from Earthquakes that are now believed to be the result of Hydraulic Fracturing). Despite this our offshore regulatory board, the CNLOPB, has remained unco-operative with environmentalists, and appears in full support of the Fracking project.
